We ran a survey of the best faceoff heads, shafts and gloves currently being used by lacrosse players. The survey had over 300 responses from FaceOff men nationwide. Here are the results:
Favorite FaceOff Head:
SK Mark 2F - The overwhelming majority of players use this head. The reasons? It’s flexible and the sidewalls are thin allowing it to slide under your opponent’s. The 2F is the 2024 equivalent of the OG Blade right now. It is the main head for most of the market. The downsides? Players need to break it in and warp the shape almost to illegal proportions to get it to work right. But with heads rarely being stick checked in today’s game. It’s the perfect cheat code.
Warrior Burn FO Recovery – Trevor Baptiste’s signature head got a plastics upgrade recently. The “recovery” version of the Burn is more flexible and maintains it’s shape very well. It’s the only head on the market that is a true combo of a face-flex and oblique flex. The downside is that it’s rather wide so it’s susceptible to plungers and rakes vs thinner heads.
ECD Weapon X – Greg Gurenlian’s signature head has always been known as more of a “2-way midfielder” Faceoff head. Favored by many players who stay on to play offense. It’s the only FO head on the market with a true offset and basically feels like an offensive head with the ball in the stick. Although it has great flex points, the main complaint is that it’s stiffer than the other heads on the market.

Favorite Shaft:
STX Sci-Ti – The Sci-Ti from STX is a scandium titanium alloy. It’s super light and very strong. It has a very popular grip and just about any head fits on it with no problem at all.
Maverik Apollo – The apollo is one of the lightest shafts on the market. I feels borderline weightless in your grip. And despite its lack of weight, it is surprisingly strong. It will certainly dent/break before most handles on the market though. It’s a give and take relationship.
FOA Shield Sci-Ti – The FOA Sci-Ti has an identical strength to weight ratio as the STX version, however it has a more defined grip making it very useful for bottom sidewall moves. It is also roughly $40 cheaper than the other sci-ti shafts on the market. The downside, it is only available on one site (FOAreps.com)

Favorite Gloves:
Maverik Max – Maverik’s Max gloves are everything you want as a player. Dexterous, comfortable, lightweight, and breathable. The biggest thing that moves the needle in this survey? Maverik gloves last forever. The crazy part is that the Max isn’t even as good as the discontinued but much beloved Rome line.
STX Surgeon RZR – The RZR has unmatched digit flexibility due to the dozens of mini pads that make up each finger. They look really cool as well. The big downside is the pads, specifically in the thumb area, don’t hold up with repetitive faceoffs.
Warrior Evo – The evo has unmatched protection but the downside is they tend to feel more bulky than other heads on the market and they also don’t seem to feel as breathable, especially during the summer tournament grind; Also Receiving Votes: Maverik Rome (No longer made), Epoch Integra
